French Bertheir M1907, M1907/15, M16 Rifle Stock, WWI, Lebel, Original
This stock was for a full length rifle and measures 38” long from butt to the end of the break at the front. I am not sure how much wood is missing, but this part of the stock is the easiest to repair. Somewhere during the last 100+ years this stock has been around, someone decided to sand and refinish it. They don’t appear to have gone crazy with the sanding, and the exterior dimensions look right from the sided look right. However, I notice that they did slim the wrist of the stock somewhat as visible from above or below. At least I think they did. Maybe it was always that way. The stock you see is the one you will get. It has no hardware. After looking at some pictures, I think this stock was probably too a M1907 or M1907/17 rifle as it doesn’t have a finger groove running into the front band like the M16 rifle does. Good project stock for a military restoration I think.
